GRO Committees

The GRO has a number of ad hoc and standing committees working on specific issues, such as travel grants, campus-wide surveys, etc. The GRO also appoints graduate representatives to University boards.


Internal GRO Committees & Special Projects

Travel Grant Committee

The GRO Travel Grant Committee is comprised of five members, with a minimum of two students each from KSAS and WSE. Members are ineligible to receive the grant during their tenure on the committee.

Quality of Life Committee

Policy Committee

When active, the Policy Committee evaluates internal GRO procedures.  All recommendations from this committee are forwarded to the General Council for review before being implemented.

GPSA Week

Orientation

The GRO has worked with Graduate Affairs to signifigantly improve the annual new-student orientation.

Summer Sports Coordinator

The Summer Sports Coordinator(s) are responsible for organization GRO's annual Summer Sports League.


External Committees

Doctor of Philosophy Board

This board oversees the distribution of PhD degrees across all divisions of the university.

Currently, there two PhD students invited to attend meetings of the board.

Homewood Graduate Board

The Homewood Graduate Board is responsible for the administration of policies and procedures for graduate degrees on the Homewood campus.  The GRO is invited to help with the nomination of two student members, one each from KSAS and WSE. Student members are full-voting members of the board on all matters except the degree conferrals.

Student Health Insurance Committee

The Student Health Insurance Committee is responsible for the selection and oversight of the jhu health insurance offered by the University. Traditionally, the GRO's Health Concern Chair sits on this committee.

Student Health Advisory Committee

The Student Health Advisory Committee acts as liaison between students and the Student Health & Wellness Center. Traditionally, the GRO's Health Concern Chair sits on this committee, but the committee may have space for other interested graduate students.

JHU Interfaith Council

The JHU Interfaith Council has the mission "to sponsor and work towards establishing a cooperative community spirit among religious groups on the Hopkins campus and to dispel the myths and misunderstandings others may hold about various religions, faiths, and belief systems".  Traditionally, the GRO's Diversity Coordinator sits on this committee.
