Art History Lecture Series

The Art History Graduate Lecture Group organizes a lecture series that brings in 4-6 speakers every year to speak on topics ranging from ancient to contemporary art. The series is organized entirely by graduate students. The lectures are often interdisciplinary in nature and are always open to the public.

Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA)

The Black Graduate Students Association (BGSA) is an organization whose ultimate aim is to promote the academic success of African, African American and Afro Caribbean graduate students at Johns Hopkins University. JHU Cricket Club

We are a group that enables and encourages all Hopkins affiliates to learn and play cricket. We play and practice regularly during weekends. We also aim to participate in competitive leagues in the Baltimore Washington area. The weekend sessions are split into serious practice sessions keeping the competitive leagues in mind and casual sessions where beginners and experts can come and enjoy cricket. The serious sessions are played with leatherball on the practice field while the casual sessions are played with tennis balls on the Upper Quad. Membership is open to all Hopkins affiliates.

Mentoring to Inspire Diversity in Science (MInDS)

The mission of Mentoring to Inspire Diversity in Science (MInDS) is to enrich the scientific community through diversification. We foster the career development of graduate students, encourage undergraduate students to pursue careers in science, and expose K-12th grade students to the excitement of conducting hands-on experiments. MInDS works with the Johns Hopkins University's faculty and administration to develop effective strategies to identify, recruit, retain and support underrepresented groups in an effort to diversify the Cellular, Molecular, Developmental Biology and Biophysics graduate program. Through mentorship, networking, and improving community awareness, MInDS contributes to the universal effort to diversify academic research at colleges and universities nationwide.

Squash Club

The Hopkins Squash Club aims to bring together lovers of squash - no matter what skill level - for clinics, matches, tournaments, and other social events. We aim to hold at least one clinic a month with a pro to develop skills, and have our members play regularly in a squash ladder.   • We are a a student-created and student-run multidisciplinary organization in the physics, planetary science, and biology departments. We operate under guidance provided by members of those departments and the Space Telescope Science Institute. The club is open to any faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students from all departments regardless of background and specialization. Our two main objectives are: to foster interest in the burgeoning field of astrobiology and the connections between the many disciplines involved in astrobiology; and to engender potential collaborative research opportunities between departments in diverse areas such as origins of life, exoplanet formation, planetary atmospheres, and habitability. These objectives are addressed with monthly club meetings that have been held continuously since April 2010, discussions on the astrobioclub@lists.jhu.edu email listserv, interaction with the students and faculty participating in AS.171.333 "Planets, Life and the Universe" during the Fall 2010 semester, and the club's web site, http://astrobiology.jhu.edu.

IMP has achieved a 100% graduation and 100% college acceptance rate by engaging students in activities that build self-worth,academic pride,and social responsibility. IMP strives to unite the people and resources of Baltimore in an effort to break the cycle of poverty, drugs, and lack of education. Generations of IMP alumni will create a powerful force of social change and establish a new cycle of learning, service, and social well-being.

  • Johns Hopkins Graduate Christian Fellowship (GCF) is a Christian fellowship and advocacy group. We seek to provide fellowship and community for JHU Christian graduate students and to be a resource to commend Christian philosophy and way of life to Hopkins graduate students. Any graduate student interested in community and/or the Christian faith is welcome to participate in GCF. GCF is part of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. GCF meets every Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the Interfaith Center for Bible study and prayer. GCF also holds worship nights, prayer meetings, retreats, and various other events throughout the year.

  • The Hopkins Jujitsu club teaches a modern version of traditional Japanese Jujitsu that combines the old Shogun era techniques with those of the modern police force into an art with a broad base of self-defense options. Club meetings focus on situational self-defense, throwing, grappling, and improving your physical and mental condition as well as coordination. Training for and participating in the annual inter-collegiate tournament as a member of the Hopkins team is optional, as is rank promotion. New members are always welcome, so come see what it is all about.

  • The Jewish Graduate Student Association (JGSA) is a student run group that exists to address the needs of the graduate Jewish community at the Johns Hopkins University by promoting cultural, social, educational, religious, and political programming. We seek to raise awareness of Judaism and Jewish culture, as well as community and campus resources for Jewish students from many different departments at Homewood and also in the larger graduate student community. A major goal of our organization is to provide space and time for graduate students to connect and create communities.
    The JGSA consists of students from both Arts and Sciences and Engineering. Any student from Johns Hopkins University is welcome at our events though we tailor the advertising to the post-graduate crowd specifically. While our central programming interest is around Jewish holidays and interests, all of our events are open to the entire graduate student community, regardless of religious affiliation. We work closely and coordinate programs with Hopkins Hillel, as well as representatives from JHMI (Medical, Public Health, and Nursing Schools), and other universities of the greater Baltimore area.

Classes are free and beginners are welcome!
