Help the GRO's Endowment Grow

Whenever you want to make a purchase on Amazon, remember to click through here! It costs you nothing, and the GRO endowment gets a small percentage of the purchases made to spend on things like coffee hours, happy hours, and all the other great events that we put together throughout the year. Find out more here.

~ ~ ~ Updates to the GRO Website ~ ~ ~

Grads, we're happy to announce some new changes to the GRO website that should make your experience with the GRO much more pleasant. First off, we're bringing announcements online. No more 24,632 emails from the GRO every week! Browse the Announcements section below to find some activities of interest to you. If you just want a quick peek at what's going on this week, check out our calendars. We've split things up by GRO-Official events (GRO meetings, Social Chairs' events) and GRO-Sponsored activites (free food, concerts, seminars, and more from GRO groups).

GRO group leaders will find some improvements to the funding and advertising process. We've moved our funding requests all-digital, so no more handwriting your funding requests. We're still not 100% paperless, but we're getting there. Event advertisement is also more streamlined, as we've got a Google form for you to directly add your GRO group event to our calendar, homepage, and Monday coffee hour emails. You'll need a password to submit an event announcement, so contact communications.gro@gmail.com to get your group password.

As part of our continued committment to transparency in our business, we're highlighting our most up-to-date governing documents and the last year of General Council minutes, and making it easier for you to find your department reps and contact E-Board members. The Grad News has also gotten a little facelift, so you can browse the latest issue on your screen without downloading. The website is always a work in process, so if you have questions or comments, email communications.gro@gmail.com.

Campus-wide Smoking Ban Referendum

You may well have heard of an undergraduate-sponsored survey regarding a ban of smoking from the Homewood Campus from your department representative; the GRO has been asked to poll your (Homewood grad students') opinions on such a decision.  The GRO General Council has been deliberating how best to disseminate this survey.  The link to the poll and the GRO's statement regarding the referendum will be sent out very soon.

GRO Officer (Executive Board) Elections - Wed. May 1

Keen to get more involved in making policies that improve your life and the lives of your Homewood grad colleagues?  Join the 2013-14 GRO Executive Board.  Our annual elections for all officer positions will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 PM in the Levering Great Hall.  Each department has one vote for each position (so make sure that your department rep attends).  The positions open for election may be found here:  http://gro.jhu.edu/organization/officers/index.html.

Descriptions of the various positions may be found here  (starting at Article 6): http://gro.jhu.edu/organization/documents/policy.html.

Nominations and questions may be sent to gro@jhu.edu

GRO Spring Travel Grants - due May 6
